The Joel and Dena Gambord Nursing Scholarship at the Community Foundation for Monterey County was founded with the mission to develop professional nurses in the Monterey Bay area. The scholarship achieves this mission by supporting nursing students in the California State University at Monterey Bay’s Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Completion of a BSN qualifies students for advanced professional career opportunities in a wide array of healthcare settings.

Priority consideration will be given to scholarship applications in the following order:
• First priority will be given to RN to BSN applicants
• Second priority will be given to ADN to BSN applicants

Guidelines and Application

  • US Citizen
  • Based on measures of merit and demonstrated commitment to their profession
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 and be in good academic standing
  • Demonstrated financial need (as substantiated by the student applicant)
  • Community service experience
  • Applicants must hold an active unrestricted CA RN license
  • Be currently enrolled at CSUMB as a full-time or part-time student during the scholarship period
  • Submit a completed application along with all required supplementary documents by the application deadline
  • Commitment to the Bachelors in Nursing Program

Ongoing requirements

  • Good to excellent academic standing (3.0 to 4.0 GPA)
  • Good to excellent ratings in all clinical preceptorships
  • Financial need throughout the duration of the scholarship
  • Completion of the CSUMB US Histories and Democratic Participation general education requirement
  • The study of the US Constitution and the political makeup of the United States
